The Barn

When the farm was purchased in 2012, it had an old house, a log shed, and a tobacco barn. While the first order of business was clean up, the family’s vision for sharing their little piece of Heaven became clear. An event venue was something they dreamed of even before the property changed hands.

What they didn’t dream of is that opening their farm and barn doors would bring in hundreds of strangers who felt like family.

The family’s vision was to create a place to gather. To do that, they decided to remodel the existing 100 year old tobacco barn. They began by cleaning out the sheds and leveling the barn floor. A roof expansion followed, along with the steps necessary to get it to what visitors see today. Every part of the remodel was intentional as they planned to incorporate the original exterior boxing and corrugated metal roofing in the shed, converted to the serving area. Even the lights were recycled and repurposed shop lights.

Stained and stamped concrete, a back porch addition, stained oak board and batten and even recycled barn doors were pieces together to create the family’s dream gathering place.

Upon completion of the remodel in 2017, the first parties at the barn included: surprise birthdays, Mother’s and Father’s Day fish fries, the weddings of neighbors and one of their own, Kellie’s.

During the Spring and Fall months, you’ll find the barn hosting wedding and baby showers, anniversary parties, in addition to the weddings and receptions that celebrate the joining of two families.

The Childress family, their closest friends and new friends all love to escape to the barn. Whether they are eating, dancing, or sitting and watching the deer graze the soybeans, they all agree...there’s something special about being on a farm in the middle of nowhere.
